PLEASURE AND PAIN
glance at TV, magazines, newspapers and the deluge of junk mail that we receive everyday, tells us that we live in a pleasure-seeking society. Our everyday recipe for life in the fast lane of this hi-tech century is hedonism, an ancient philosophy that considers pleasure to be the ultimate good and which modern man has adopted as his philosophy for success.

The Nativity of Our Most Holy Lady Theotokos
The Nativity of Our Most Holy Lady Theotokos and Ever Virgin Mary: The Most Holy Virgin Mary was born at a time when people had reached such a degree of moral decay that it seemed altogether impossible to restore them. People often said that God must come into the world to restore faith and not permit the ruin of mankind.
Nativity of the Theotokos
As we strive to surrender our wills more and more to God, as we struggle to trust in God and to lean not on our own understandings (Proverbs 3:5-6), it’s important for us to be reminded of how God has cared for His people throughout human history. We can see this fact in so many places in the Holy Scriptures, but perhaps no more beautifully than in the person of the Mother of God. She is for us a part of the fulfillment of God’s plan for His people, and a magnificent image to us of how God cares for those who submit to Him.
What Is Love?
Love…. A Journey of the Soul
Based on the writings of Father Tadros Malaty
Love is a very complicated concept to many people. Does he really love me? Do I really love her? How do I know that I’m in love? Do I love my parents and do they love me? Do I love God?
“Blessed Are the Pure in Heart for They Shall See God”
Parents are for the child the first door to the Kingdom of God. By the way the parents live a godly life, they provide the first example of God’s love and care. Saint Theophan the Recluse (The Path to Salvation) advises that “the upbringing in the home is the root and foundation of everything that follows.” Setting a right foundation, then, is the first priority of the parent for the child. When an infant has such a beginning in life, there is little that can change his belief later as he matures. The foundation of belief becomes a part of the concrete, so to speak, that hardens and forms the person the child grows into.
Journey to the Promised Land
I have tried to find some type of meaning in my life living in war and unemployed and living as a foreigner in a country that I never really wanted to come too and can list at least fifty reasons why I do not want to live in a Palestinian village. But the one reason overshadows all the others and that is my faith in God. I make every effort to trust in the Lord’s plan for me and to understand why certain things have happened to me thus helping me take my next breath in moments when I felt like dying.

Questions & Answers
A “women’s libber” on T. V. referred to a passage in the Bible and attributed to Paul that man was made in the image of God and that woman was made “in the image of man.” Is this true? (I don’t think that it is.)
Finally Oriented
Dan told me about a dream he had while he was a missionary in Canada. In the dream, he was walking inside this very old church building, with marble floors and high ceilings. Inside there were pictures all over the walls and candles burning everywhere. Several old men with long white beards and dressed in black robes, were praying standing up, and he sensed, stronger than he had ever sensed, the presence of God in the place.
